Learning is Activism: Exploring Race, Whiteness, and Justice
Libraries are for everyone. It’s more than just a slogan. It’s the foundation of what we believe.
It is clear now more than ever that being “for everyone” comes with a responsibility to stand up against racism. The La Crosse Public Library stands in solidarity with our neighbors speaking out against racism. We believe that Black Lives Matter.
We know that libraries, like so many American institutions, have problematic histories of racism that cannot be ignored. As a public institution, it is our responsibility to closely examine our policies and practices to make sure they serve all of our public equitably and we are committed to doing so. Today, we pledge as an organization to prioritize equity, diversity, and inclusion in everything we do. We are asking you, as our community, as our neighbors to do this work with us. Let’s learn together and take action together. If you don’t know where to start, we can help with the first steps.
